The Down Syndrome Clinic at The Children's Hospital of Alabama provides an array of evaluations
and services, as well as referrals for services. Evaluation services include developmental
pediatric assessment, developmental screening by a team consisting of a physical therapist,
occupational therapist and a speech and language therapist. Further evaluations include
nutrition, hearing and vision testing, laboratory tests and radiology services. Services
provided include genetic services, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, otolaryngology,
dental, neurology, social services and psychiatry (including behavioral interventions). Unique
to this clinic is the parent representative, who participates in each clinic session and
provides emotional and practical help to each family. The Down Syndrome Clinic enjoys a
close relationship with the UAP through the Civitan International Research Center/Sparks
Clinics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham that provide additional developmental services for families that may include
referral to support and advocacy groups, community resources and support to schools.

The clinic provides comprehensive medical evaluations for individuals with Down syndrome 21 years of age and over. Each patient is examined by a family physician, a geneticist, an audiologist, a social worker, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a physical therapist, and a nutritionist. In addition, dental care is also available at this site.
